A fund that works like an incubator.

What we are

Talanta Africa Fund is a U.S. 501(c)(3) philanthropic incubator. We raise money in America and put it to work in one place we know deeply: the communities around Lake Naivasha, in Kenya’s Rift Valley. We do not run programs from abroad, and we do not scatter grants widely. We initiate and develop locally led organizations and initiatives — then stay close, hands-on in strategy, leadership development, oversight, and measurement, until each one stands on its own.

Where we work

Our work begins in Kasarani, a community of thirty thousand on the shores of Lake Naivasha, set among the flower farms that supply Europe with cut roses. Years of daily presence there — knowing families, schools, and leaders by name — are the foundation everything else is built on; from Kasarani the work now reaches surrounding communities around the lake.

The challenges are real: drug abuse among teenage boys, school drop-out, early pregnancy, households held together by one parent. So are the strengths: a culture of seriousness about education, and fierce love within families that have very little. Everything we fund begins from those strengths.

How we work

Our approach comes from a decade spent building companies and nonprofits inside a business incubator, applied with patience to community organizations. What we build toward: initiatives named by the community itself; led by people from the community; designed to sustain themselves; measured honestly; and documented well enough that others can validate and scale them.

We provide what young organizations rarely have — institutional infrastructure: U.S. fundraising rails, governance, accounting discipline, evaluation, and long-term leadership formation.

What makes us different

We work in one place, not many. Depth is the credential: years in the community, partners who live and build there, leaders known by name. And the measure of our success is not our own growth — it is models proven well enough that others carry them far beyond Lake Naivasha.

Our faith

Our work has Christian roots, and we take them seriously. We are motivated by our faith to serve; we serve everyone, of any faith or none; and the organizations we incubate are shaped by the communities they belong to.

Governance & accountability

Talanta Africa Fund is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit registered in the United States, EIN 92-0521819, recognized by the IRS in 2022. Donations are tax-deductible as allowed by law.

One hundred percent of every donation goes directly to the projects we support: administration, fundraising, and overhead are funded separately, and everyone who leads or serves the Fund is a volunteer — professionals who built their skills and earned their livings elsewhere, and now bring their time, talent, and treasure to this work at their own cost.

We publish what we can substantiate: the numbers on this site are dated where they appear, the named programs are operational, and the named partners are partners because we work with them.
